What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga is a mindfulness exercise that is a combination of muscular activity and internally directed focus on awareness of self, breath, and energy.
Unlike a standard yoga class, yoga therapy sessions are typically conducted in one-on-one or small group settings. Yoga therapy can be provided as an adjunct therapy to complement other forms of treatment, or it can be used to directly treat a specific issue. Yoga therapy is customized to the individual needs of the client.
Yoga Therapy can help:
- Decrease blood pressure
- Improve blood circulation
- Create a calm respiratory rate
- Increase cardiovascular endurance
- Improve gastrointestinal function
- Increase mindfulness and patience
- Reduce Stress
- Improve sleep patterns
- Promote calmness throughout the body, including improving mental health issues like anxiety and depression
What happens during treatment?
Whether in a group or during a solo session, your yoga therapist will assess your physical needs and prepare a practice plan. Your plan may involve yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, or a combination of the three. During your session, you yoga therapist will teach you techniques and prescribe practices for you to use at home.
Physical attire is based on what makes you feel comfortable. Our therapists typically wear stretchy, workout wear (t-shirt, leggings, gym shorts, etc.). Our therapists will provide yoga mats and music, but you are welcome to bring your own mat.
Yoga therapy meets each and every person where they are- regardless of health issues. Sessions can be tailored to meet your physical and emotion needs.
